Alicha - Mild Ethiopian Red Lentils

Alicha is a mild lentil stew from the country of Ethiopia. It is made with a unique blend of herbs and spices. For this stew, we partnered with Gemadi Bekuto, a former Ethiopian food truck owner, whose mission was to share his culture through delicious plant-based cuisine. Due to unfortunate events, Gemadi had to permanently close his food truck, but Country Life Natural Foods wanted him to continue his mission. Alicha is a must-try dish for anyone looking to experience the rich and diverse taste of Ethiopia.

Ingredients

Red Lentils, Tomato Flakes, Onion Flakes, Redmond Real Salt, Granulated Garlic, Ground Cardamom, Turmeric

Directions

1. Add 2-3 tablespoon of oil and the lentil mixture to a medium saucepan and turn on the stove to medium heat. Stir and toast lentil mix with oil for about 2-3 minutes. 
2. Add 2 cups of water and stir for 2-3 minutes.
3. Add 2 more cups of water and continue stirring for another 2-3 minutes.
4. Add another 2 cups of water (or more as desired), stir and turn the heat down to low. Close the lid and simmer for 20 minutes or until the lentils are soft, while stirring every 2 minutes.
Enjoy with a side of flatbread or rice.
